Dear Kemcolians

Assalam O Alaikum!

I am humbled with the honour of serving KEMCA UK as the Chairman. It brings not only honour but also a privilege and a sense of huge responsibility. KEMCA UK is representative body for living legends and this representation is a demanding task. KEMCA UK has progressed leaps and bounds since its inception in late 1990’s. There has been untiring efforts to accomplish the task of establishment, consolidation of its infrastructure and organizational development. KEMCA UK has done invaluable service to bring all the kemcolians on this platform. Annual function of KEMCA UK provides an opportunity to rekindle old friendships and to meet new Alumni. A great deal of joy is brought by active participation of families. CPD programme has become an integral part of the function and fund raising for charity has been undertaken during the social function.

2009 has brought new challenges for KEMCA UK. A new cabinet has been elected and taken over charge in July 2009. KEMCA UK is now a registered charity and expectations would be high to deliver. Evolution of a Global KEMU Alumni is a question, being repeatedly presented to us at various meetings. Challenges faced by doctors in NHS and in particular overseas doctors are extremely important and need significant attention. Virtually non-acceptance of UK medical/surgical training by CPSP is a considerable barrier to the goals of Kemcolians who plan to return to Pakistan to serve their own country. Recent problems faced by KEMU regarding its charter are now over, but such conspiring attempts certainly disrupt routine activities and distract people from real important issues. KEMCA UK is fully aware of the problems faced by KEMU and students; and is always looking at ways to improve KEMU resources and academic activities of students. Improvement of health services and resources of Mayo hospital always need attention of Alumni. KEMCA UK and its members have also been trying to play their role in improving health services in Pakistan. Pakistan is in a crisis situation; and among various issues, matter of IDPs is significant. Being a health personnel organization, KEMCA UK is expected to play role in provision of health facilities to men, women and children affected by this unfortunate situation.

KEMCA UK has accepted these challenges with great enthusiasm and determination. KEMCA UK has been formally invited to winter Alumni 2009 at KEMU in Dec 2009, where further formal discussions and review will take place. KEMCA UK charity is looking for ways and means to maximize the impact of efforts rather than just carrying funds to a place where availability of resources is as much an issue; as use of available resources.

In achieving goals of KEMCA UK, efforts of my colleagues and team are worth mentioning. A special mention of Dr Muhammad Abid is mandatory. He has played a very pivotal role in establishing and consolidating KEMCA UK’s status over the past 10 years. I would like to compliment Rana Hafiz ur Rehman, for his invaluable efforts for enrolling KEMCA UK as a charity organization, Adeel Iqbal for his explosive energy and entertainment ideas, Tufail Toor for his endless energy and Anjum Bashir who has served as a charismatic and dynamic secretary and finally Nadeem Butt for a major upgrade of the website.

I would like to thank you for pledging your trust and confidence in me and with your continued support we will take KEMCA UK to the new heights of success it truly deserves. I eagerly look forward to receive your feedback and welcome you in person at the next KEMCA UK function on 26th June 2010 in Bradford.

Naveed Malik

Chairman KEMCA UK.
